Whenever we’re feeling anxious about planning and achieving our goals, the last thing we want is someone telling us to calm down. But, please, allow me to be that person today and advise you—calm down.
Our anxiety around reaching goals or hitting numbers does not make us more effective or compelling, especially when we're selling or influencing others. If people perceive our stress and unease about getting the deal or making our numbers for the quarter, we repel them. They don't want to be near us.
So, calm down.
Notice your anxiety— “Am I going to make my numbers? Will I do as well as I did last year?” Then take a breath and work your plan. You have a plan for the year, the quarter, the month, the week. And a plan for today. One day at a time.
Do the best you can. Be accountable. Remind yourself to calm down and see where it takes you.
Onward.
