There’s a difference between scurry and hustle. In this current climate, I see lots of people scurrying around from a place of fear. It’s scattershot, not grounded, a reaction to perceived scarcity; it seems like “scurriers” aren’t even remembering to breathe. Making choices about your business—your outreach, pitching, pricing, selling—is a very bad idea when you're in scurry mode. When you're approaching your work with this level of frantic intensity, you won’t make beneficial decisions or come across as compelling to prospects. So, notice if you're scurrying and stop yourself. Calm down, breathe, take the day or week off to reset.
That said, it is okay to hustle. Hustle is upping your game, paying attention and staying focused, rethinking your plan and pivoting. It's grounded, intentional, strategic. There's some urgency but no panic. And, most notably, it’s confident.
In the coming days, notice which mode you’re in. If you’re scurrying, settle down, get your wits about you, and approach your work with a renewed sense of hustle.
Onward.
