Caring

Clients stay with you when they feel cared for. Employees stay with you when they feel cared for. In the hustle and bustle of life, it’s easy to become complacent about acknowledging and appreciating those we value the most. Here are a couple ways to best demonstrate care toward people in our professional sphere and beyond…

  1. Don't just say, “How are you?” and not mean it. Everyone auto-pilots and says, “Hi, how are you?” “Oh, I'm fine. Great, thanks”—rote questions and answers that don’t go anywhere. Every now and then, break the mold and ask, “What’s going on? What's happening in your world? How are you feeling today? How are you doing, really?” Then, listen to the answer, taking the time to show you care. With clients, employees, and those close to you, it goes a long way.
  1. Share appreciation and be specific. Tell your team members and your clients something that you really appreciate about them—how they work, how they show up, their positive attitude. Tell them verbally, tell them in writing, share an appreciation in front of others. People really like to be seen and appreciated. Don't assume that the people in your life know that you value them.

In what you say and share, be candid and genuine. Keeping people in your orbit and keeping people happy are more important than ever.

Onward.
Tom
