As we look at the year ahead, it’s easy to be sucked down the rabbit hole of fear-based headlines and projections about the year to come. It seems there’s always something to worry about: interest rates, a recession, contentious politics. Your worry is relevant and valid.
But as it relates to your business, be mindful of how much energy and attention you give to events that are not in your control, that breed anxiety and fear, that cause constriction.
Obviously, it’s positive to be aware of what’s going on in the world. But often, we’re too indulgent in our consumption of news, taking in way more information than is productive or healthy.
There’s so much that’s in your control, so concentrate on that. Be disciplined with your thoughts and words when you’re dealing in topics that trigger fear and anxiety. Focus on what you want and what’s going well—look for more of that in challenging, uncertain times. Be a leader and be good to yourself.
Onward.
