Over and over, I receive prospecting emails that could end more effectively and with better finesse. Here are three ways to wrap up on the right note…
• Offer a next step that’s easy to say yes to. Suggest a brief, scheduled conversation. Keep it clear and simple.
• Avoid “yes or no” questions—e.g., anything starting with, “Can we,” “Are you available for,” “Are you interested in…?” Leaving things open-ended generally leads to a “no.” Instead, make the offer and then use a phrase like “Let me know if you're open to scheduling a brief conversation.” “Let me know if…” doesn’t end with a question mark!
• In your sign-off, delete any use of “Thanks,” “Please,” and exclamation points (e.g., “I look forward to hearing from you!”). Let your message stand emphatically as is. End with your name. If you really feel you need to, you can say, “Have a nice day,” but play it cool, stay calm, and don't end with too much excitement.
From start to finish of your prospecting emails, demonstrate clarity, organization, assuredness, and composure. I promise you’ll see in a difference in your inbox.
Onward.
