If you’ve been following along, I took a brief hiatus from producing content; here’s what I learned…
It’s hard to get back on the horse. I now see that once you stop the rhythm of creating content or doing new business outreach, resuming the routine feels extremely daunting. Like taking a day off from training for a marathon, the pain of picking back up again makes you question why you ever thought you could handle a break in the first place.
Consistency is everything in content creation, prospecting, and, to extend the metaphor, long-distance running. Finding areas where you can maintain consistency is key to forward progress and growth. To that end, my hiatus felt more like cheating or avoidance, and, in the end, I concluded that it wasn’t such a good idea.
If I really want a break, I can work ahead to produce six videos before taking a month or two off. Then I can truly savor the time away, knowing that content has been created and is circulating and gaining traction while I’m recharging.
So, my conclusion from this experiment: don’t take a hiatus. If you must take time off, plan and work ahead. Because consistency is key to building any new habit, I recommend thinking twice before you step away and lose momentum.
I appreciate what I’ve learned from this experience.
Onward.
